About Garland
Garland is a Texas city and an inner suburb of
Dallas, being an important part of the Dallas-Fort
Worth Metroplex. According to the 2010 census,
Garland is on the tenth position in Texas and on the
ninety-second in the United States.
Garland was born out of the conflict between two
other towns: Duck Creek and Embree which were in
rivalry because of the post office. This was
generated by the fact that they both grew around the
Santa Fe Railroad. In order to solve the dispute,
Dallas County Judge Thomas A. Nash decided to move
the post office between these two towns, which was
completed in 1887. The new area was named Garland
after the name of the Attorney General Augustus Hill
Garland. It wasn’t until in 1891 that the two towns
and the area between them finally united and formed
what is known today as Garland.
Perhaps the name of Garland is knows to you from the
1998 failed ‘event’ when Garland attracted media
attention with the failure of a prophecy belonging
to the Chen Tao group: according to them, on May 31,
1998 God was going to be seen live on a single
television channel all throughout North America.
